Going to see drive-in movies is one of my favorite Fall pastimes! The chilly nights and spooky vibes make Autumn the perfect season for this timeless, classic activity. If you’ve never been to a drive-in movie and are unsure of what you’ll need, you’re reading the right post! Here are my drive-in movie must-haves.
Must-Have #1: Chairs
I like to frequent drive-in theatres on chilly nights, but if you’d like to go on a warmer, Summer night, chairs are essential! Here is a direct link to the chairs I like (which are only $10). They fold up easily, and they’re not too uncomfortable. So, if you like to get out of your car to enjoy the flick, chairs are a must-have.
Must-Have #2: Bug Spray
Again, if you like to watch the movie from outside of the car, you’ll probably need some bug spray to protect you from the mosquitoes. If you’d like a more natural alternative, lemon eucalyptus oil is a popular mosquito repellent.
Must-Have #3: Blankets
Drive-in movies are the perfect cozy outing, so of course you need blankets! Even if I stay in the car, I love using blankets so I don’t have to keep turning on the car. So, before you head out to the field, make sure you pack up your favorite cozy blankets!
Must-Have #4: Portable Radio
This is the most important drive-in movie must-have on this list! Without the portable radio, you will not be able to hear the movie! If you’ve never been to a drive-in movie and you’re not sure how it works, basically, once you arrive, you’ll have to turn your radio to a specific station. That station will play the movie’s audio as you watch it on the big screen. (I used to think you had to have your car turned on the entire time) Here is a really cute vintage-style portable radio from Amazon, but if you’re not into *aesthetics*, you can use any regular, battery operated radio with nice speakers.
Must-Have #5: Comfy Clothes
You can’t have a cozy night out in uncomfy clothes! So, this next drive-in movie must-have requires you to wear your comfiest fit. Or, if it’s a Christmas movie, you can even wear a cute onesie or matching pajamas! I would also recommend wearing something with layers just in case it gets cooler as the movie goes on.
Must-Have #6: Snacks
In my opinion, good snacks are almost as essential as the radio itself! I just can’t watch a movie without good snacks! Although some theatres have concessions for sale, it’s typically cheaper to bring your own. I’ve linked some of my favorite vegan movie snacks below! (Cotton candy, popcorn, Twizzlers, vegan m&m’s dupe)
Must-Have #7: $$$
As I just mentioned, a lot of drive-in movies have concessions, so you may want to bring cash just in case. Last time I went to my local drive-in, they had Impossible burgers and vegan-friendly fries! So, make sure you bring some money along!
Must-Have #8: Wet Wipes/Paper Towels
Lastly, since you will most likely be eating/drinking inside your car, make sure you bring some wipes or napkins to clean up spills. Not a very exciting must-have, but it is essential!
