It’s a new month, which means I read some new books! My goal for 2026 is 36 books in a year, and so far, I’ve read 13! This month, I was really in a Thriller mood, and these books did not let me down! If you’re curious to know what I read, a summary, and my honest opinion, this post is for you. I’ll also share my top pick of the month and what’s TBR for April!

Book List Overview (with links to purchase)

📖 The Perfect Marriage – Jeneva Rose

The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose book review notes naturalblackvegan.com
  • Genre: Thriller
  • Why did I read this? I’ve seen so many videos online of people saying that this book is amazing, so I finally decided to read it for myself.
  • Synopsis: Sarah is a top-notch defense attorney, but no one was prepared when Sarah decided to defend her husband who is on trial for the murder of his mistress. Adam is definitely guilty of cheating, but is he also guilty of murder?
  • Tropes/themes: Legal thriller, mystery, unreliable narrator, victim to villain, red herrings, dual POV
  • My Thoughts: I could not put this one down! I loved having the perspectives of both Sarah and Adam, and the way the plot twist/ending was revealed…!!! I had to buy the physical copy to read it over and over again! I loved the way Jeneva Rose unfolded this story, and it was a great, easy read.
  • Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (out of 5)
  • Would I recommend it? Yes! I would especially recommend if you’re new to the Thriller genre (like me), or if you like books where you’re trying to solve the case as you read.

📖 The Truth About the Accident – Nicole Trope

The Truth About the Accident by Nicole Trope book review notes naturalblackvegan.com
  • Genre: Thriller
  • Why did I read this? I saw this book on BookTok, but as I was browsing in Barnes & Noble, I saw it again. The summary on the book caught my attention, so I decided to get it!
  • Synopsis: Damon was hit by a car on a busy, rainy day, but somehow, no one saw who hit him. Now, as he lay in a coma, his wife, his mistress, and his therapist are all uncovering secrets. The biggest secret of all is: Who his Damon on this rainy day?
  • Tropes/themes: Suspense, whodunit, family drama, multiple POV, surprise ending
  • My Thoughts: Once I bought this book, I came home, and read it in 3 hours straight! When I tell you I COULD NOT put this one down…! The drama, the secrets, the humor, this book had it all! The ending was a COMPLETE surprise, and after all the twists and turns, I closed this book feeling completely satisfied, and knowing that Damon got just what he deserved!
  • Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (out of 5)
  • Would I recommend it? Yes! I thoroughly enjoyed this one, especially with all of the twists and different perspectives. If you like drama and suspense, you’ll enjoy this one!

📖 Listen for the Lie – Amy Tintera

Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera book review notes naturalblackvegan.com
  • Genre: Mystery
  • Why did I read this? Again, I saw this book mentioned on BookTok, and it definitely had conflicting reviews; but, the plot sounded interesting, so I decided to read it for myself!
  • Synopsis: Years ago, Lucy’s best friend Savvy was killed in their small town, and everyone thought Lucy did it. After all, she was found near the body and covered in Savvy’s blood. The only problem is, Lucy cannot remember anything about this terrible night. But, when a true crime podcast decides to cover Savvy’s case, Lucy returns to her hometown hoping to solve the case, even if it reveals that she is the murderer after all.
  • Tropes/themes: some romance and humor, suspense, red herrings, small-town mystery, everyone’s a suspect
  • My Thoughts: We are 3/3 this month for books I could not put down! I read this entire mystery in a day, and when I reached the end…I was SHOCKED! Just like with Romance, I loved meeting all of the quirky characters in the small-town, even though I was accusing all of them in my head! The podcast aspect gave many characters a voice, and allowed the reader to see multiple perspectives while maintaining the plot. Overall, this was an entertaining read that kept me glued to the pages!
  • Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (out of 5)
  • Would I recommend it? Yes! I actually refused to tell anyone in my family the ending because I want them to read this one! It’s that good!

My Top Pick this Month is…

The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose! I could not stop thinking about this book, and I’m already planning to read the second one in this series! The plot, the surprise ending, the writing…I loved it all! It’s definitely worth all the hype and more!
